Hello, I'm Nicole Vanderhoof and I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#98851), as well as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (#4933). Born and raised in Willow Glen, I'm thrilled to be practicing in my offices on Lincoln Ave.

Professional Experience

I hold a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco, emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy and Professional Clinical Counseling.

I’ve dedicated the majority of the past decade to growing my Willow Glen practice. I feel at home here and love working with local clients of all ages.

During my years as a licensed practitioner, and previous years as an associate, intern and trainee, I've practiced in a rich variety of settings. I've worked as a school-based therapist, a community mental health therapist, as well as a private practice therapist. My clientele is diverse, with a wide range of experiences. I’ve worked with individuals, families, couples and groups.

I've had the privilege of working with children, adolescents, teens, young adults, adults and aging adults. With clients ranging from four to seventy-plus-years-old, my clientele's age range reflects the lifespan and its range of challenges in development, transitions and milestone events.

During my early counseling work, I spent several years in community-based mental health. I have experience working with individuals and families from a diverse background and a variety of socio-economic statuses.

I also spent more than three years working as a school-based therapist in the Bay Area, and later consulting with local schools. I gained a unique perspective and insight on the pressure and challenges facing young people in today's society. The stress our children and teens are under each day is unparalleled.

I've also had the opportunity to run groups based on various topics and themes, including emotional understanding, social skills, anxiety, peer pressure, stress, hot topics and many more.

Business Experience

Prior to following my passion and becoming a therapist, I worked for several years as a public relations executive in the technology sector. Born and raised in the Bay Area, I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree from Santa Clara University in Communications.

My business experience provides me with a unique, first-hand understanding of the stress and pressure we face living in a fast-paced, competitive and demanding environment. I personally understand the struggle for balance with the increasing demands upon our time.

Community

Born-and-raised locally, prior to attending Santa Clara, I graduated from Presentation High School and St. Christopher's Elementary School. I'm happy to be practicing in my hometown of Willow Glen, in a community that I've watched change and grow, and that I have grown with throughout my lifetime and career. The importance of community as a strength and protective factor is something I value deeply.
